Goodbye England, สวัสดี Thailand!

Goodbye England, สวัสดี Thailand!

I have now lived in the UK since 1997, prior to this I was living in the suburbs of Philadelphia, city of brotherly love and today I fly to Bangkok, city of Angels, and then a day later move onto Chiang Mai, City of ?????. My next adventure begins today. Some of you have no doubt read about my ongoing preparation. Some of you have agreed with my planning, others haven’t and said I should just roll with it, and not to over analyse every little detail before I get there. Well today is the day it all goes out the window or is actually useful, no matter what I’m off.

I haven’t really done very well at saying goodbye to friends and family. I hate goodbyes, after so many moves as a child I grew accustomed to leaving people and found it easier to go without fuss. Some people get offended if I don’t say goodbye. Don’t be. It’s just I’m too weak and you don’t want to see me cry. I’ll see you when I get back or even better when you come to Thailand.

My kind of goodbye!

Bags are packed with an over abundance of clothes and my mother is constantly trying to get me to take extra pants or socks. They never change (Mothers that is, not my pants, I do change them! Honest) I feel I have way to much stuff, although the flight limits me too 30kg and my bag only weighs about 22kg. It still feels like I’m over packing I probably am, but I can always give some stuff to charity later on. The nerves are starting to kick in, I’m excited about the trip but also a little nervous about leaving family and friends.

Fly the good times apparently

This is when the blog will really come to life and more entertaining. I hope you all follow with interest and subscribe via the RSS, twitter, facebook or email. Sometimes I’ll be boring others I’ll be downright entertaining. But best of all it’s a place to check if I’m alive, dead or in prison.

So I’ve had my last tuna sandwich, watched a bit of crap ITV day time telly, had some tea and biscuits and as I look into the garden it’s just started to rain. A perfect time to leave.

Goodbye England, สวัสดี Thailand!

Any last bits of advice before I go, please leave a comment or find me in Chiang Mai!

Good luck with the move Colin. I could not think of a better place to settle than Chiang Mai. It’s raining a lot in CM at the moment, but the dryer season will soon arrive.

Plenty of tuna sandwiches to be found in Chiang Mai! Also a good cheese and wine shop – of much importance to me!

It is, 3 months I’ve been waiting for this. Buying that ticket was like a ticking time bomb till the day of flight.

Already noticed the Tune sandwiches and the price of a cheap bottle of wine 500b in tesco. Do they have vineyards in Thailand?

A lot of vineyards in chon buri, though nothing you’d actually want to drink.
