Music from Thailand

Music from Thailand

One of the things i’m most looking forward to in Thailand is the music and being able to imerse myself in the culture, sounds and instruments that have influenced Thai music.  Sat here in the UK i’ve been searching the net for some music to prepare myself and from what i’ve found i’m really excited.

I found a Rough Guide music compilation of Thai music and have really enjoyed the varied styles that are played in Thailand. First thing that strikes me is that they love a bit of Jazz and Funk. This compilation has some off the most famous artists to come out of Thailand so seems like a real good place to start.

My favourites so far would have to be Mike Primporn:

and The Thai Elephant Orchestra, a band consisting of 7 elephants playing classical and avant-garde music. I have to see these guys!:

I’ve uploaded the album for you to download so you can have a listen Rough Guide to Thailand Music

Please leave a message and let me know what you think of the music!

Colin good luck with your coming trip to Thailand and the start of your new life there. I recently visited Chiang Mai for the first time and really enjoyed the experience. Here’s the link to my post:
