Running for boobies in Thailand
I guess many of you reading this are wondering why I would title this post ‘Running for boobies in Thailand’ well it’s simple really, I like boobies and I run for them. For the last few years I’ve been raising money for a charity called Coppafeel, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer 2 years ago and partly due to the support this Charity offered her she made a full recovery. Last year I ‘cycled for boobies’ from Calais to Berlin, a ride that took me 1000km, 10 days and helped me raise £1250 for coppafeel,
This year my aim was to ‘run for boobies’ and raise a similar amount of money. The idea is to run a 10k, a half marathon and a full marathon by the time the year is over starting from the first race to the last race. My first race was the Bristol 10k in May 2010 and my last race was the Milton Keynes half marathon that I completed two weeks ago.
So I have until May 2011 to complete a Marathon, when I started to plan this I wasn’t even entertaining the idea of moving to Thailand so my training schedule is going to have be changed to suit the challenges that the Thai heat and humidity will throw at me. I can imagine I’ll have to change the times that I go out running, keep to simple routes so not to get lost and many other factors that I’m sure will make this last goal very hard.
Initially I was aiming to run the Chiang Mai marathon on Christmas day but i’ve decided that I’ve not got long enough to train and I need some more miles under my belt before I attempt this. So I’ve decided that running a few half marathons in Thailand first would be the best way to acclimatise and prepare myself for the full marathon.
There are a few leading up to the new year that I will sign up to and run including the Chiang Mai half marathon on Christmas day and the Bangkok Half marathon on 20th November 2011. I’ll be posting about my runs mainly as a way to keep me motivated and another incentive to keep the training going. I’ll also be including a link to donate money to the cause at the bottom of each post (like the one below) if you should wish to donate just £/$1 it would be appreciated.
Any body else running these? Or want to join me?
Or if anybody in Thailand runs or knows of a running group that you think would help me reach this goal it would be great to hear from you.
